God revealed himself to Jacob at Bethel after he fled from the wrath and vengeance of stealing his brother's birthright. After twenty years of sojourning in Syria, God instructed him to go back to Bethel to build him an altar. Who can build an acceptable altar for God who has not first been forgiven, changed and sanctified? Jacob must become Israel, but this required spiritual brokenness. It took God to dislocate the hallow of Jacob's thigh to make him not walk anymore a-head of the timeframe of divine plans, but to walk steadily with God without haste. Whosoever hastes with his feet sin. Proverbs 19:2.
