You can come to Christ just as you are, but God wants to see changes in the image of Christ in you, lest it be said to you, that the dog returned to his vomit. If there is an unconditional love of God, he will not require anyone to repent and forsake their evil ways: he can just leave them to live anyhow and love them anyway without Christ's death to receive all to heaven afterward. Even when you come into the love of God, it requires that you abide in it by keeping his word (John 15:9-12), that you might continue in it, that by that obedient love, you may obtain his mercy on the last day.
